Diablo Fire Safe Council has been funded for 2016-2017 to continue our popular community defensible space fuel reduction projects!  When we ran this program in 2013-15, DFSC was able to fund 32 projects.  Together, neighbors treated over 153 acres with project funding of $172,562, matched by $378,460, working adjacent to 568 homes and protecting over 45,834 community members. Need some ideas on how you might develop a project for your property and neighborhood?  Check out “How did you do that?”

When you and your neighbors are ready to apply for your own project funds, the applications are available on the Vegetation Removal section of this website.  The DFSC Board will be reviewing applications on a quarterly basis.

2015 was a productive year for the Diablo Fire Safe Council, see the 2015 Annual Report  for a snapshot of all we achieved.  To highlight a few:

  • DFSC has two right of entry agreements with East Bay Regional Park District. The neighbors in the Park Hills community of Berkeley and the Kensington residents continued their activities on the fuel reduction projects on park lands adjacent their homes with DFSC and Pacific Gas and Electric grants augmenting neighbor donations and volunteer work.

  • DFSC partnered with East Bay Regional Park and Student Conservation Association for youth work crews to remove fuels.  Funding courtesy of Pacific Gas and Electric Company.

  • Residents of Sunol and Kilkare Woods worked with DFSC with drought related special funding from Pacific Gas and Electric Company to remove dead trees, chip homeowner cut materials and for roadside clearance of hazardous fuels.

  • DFSC received funding for four new grants focused on western Contra Costa County, the Clayton Morgan Territory area and filling the gaps with new partners.  Watch this website for updates as these projects progress.
