$5k For Fuel Reduction

From DFSC’s Special Needs Assistance Program

Diablo Firesafe Council offers up to $5,000 of assistance to help low-income and/or disabled residents hire a contractor to reduce fuel loads and create defensible space on their property.


Projects can include:

  • Removal of dead or downed vegetation

  • Chipping or removal of homeowner cut material

  • Mowing or weed whacking (as part of a larger project)

  • Tree thinning or limbing-up of small trees

  • Brush cutting (including juniper removal)


Eligibility

  • Live within the Alameda or Contra Costa County within a local fire hazard area, Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone or a Federally listed Community at Risk.

  • Agree to hire a contractor to reduce fuels within 100 feet of defensible space radius surrounding their home.

  • Obtain support of local fire department with a site visit, inspection notice, letter of support or email).

  • Demonstrate financial need, special need or disability
