Get rid of flammable debris and dead wood with free curbside chipping or pick-up. Fire departments and public agencies throughout the East Bay offer curbside chipping services at no cost.
Berkeley offers free curbside pick-up of chippable material and provides yard debris bins for other vegetation in many neighborhoods.
Hayward provides free curbside chipping in high-risk areas, including the Fairview Fire Protection District, Hayward Hills, and Five Canyons.
Moraga-Orinda Fire District offers free chipping services, free upgrades to large green waste disposal bins, and pickup for up to 14 bags of cleared vegetation.
Contra Costa County will arrange community chipping days for groups of neighbors. This can be a great way to band together and improve the whole neighborhood.
Alameda County Fire Department offers curbside chipping in different locations every Saturday. Check their home page for dates in your area, and be sure to sign up in advance.
The Bay Area Air Quality Management District provides free on-site chipping throughout the Bay Area. So if other options don’t work for you, be sure to check the BAAQMD site for more details. Agricultural operations can also take advantage of their services to save money and avoid burning high-risk fuels.
