On October 16, 2025 DFSC held the fourth in our series of stakeholder meetings for our update of the Alameda County and Contra Costa County Regional Priority Plan. At the meeting, we reviewed the 28 projects approved in our first round for inclusion in the RPP update. We shared that we received 16 additional proposed projects in the second round of submissions and that our steering committee expects to complete our review and approval of projects in the next several weeks. The submission portal for new projects is temporarily closed until we complete this review.

We reported on our recent in-person meeting with staff at the State Coastal Conservancy and the State Department of Conservation. At the meeting, we learned that the California State Legislature approved $185 million to go to the Department of Conservation to fund RPP projects through the state Climate Bond. Only $10 million of that total has been released now, and there is no timeline yet for the release of the remaining funds. DFSC will keep stakeholders informed about any changes or new dates that are shared with us.

At the stakeholder meeting, we also shared our new crowdsourced funding resource list now available on our DFSC website. This resource is a consolidated list of vetted funding sources for a wide range of wildfire safety projects, like the ones that have been submitted to our RPP process. All of the funding sources – totaling approximately 40 in this first iteration of the resource list – are regular, reliable sources of funding for wildfire safety and prevention work that have offered funding opportunities in recent years. Sign up for email alerts from these funders so you’ll be ready the moment a new opportunity is announced.
